During the months of September - November our Sermon Series will be: 2 Timothy - Counsel for the Next Generation. This Pastoral Letter from the Apostle Paul was written to his young disciple Timothy from a prison in Rome, just months before he was executed by the Roman emperor Nero. During this time in history the early church was facing severe persecution and internal strife.

Discerning that the end of his life was near, Paul urges Timothy to be strong, courageous and resolute in his faith.  He also warns him (and us) about the heresies attacking the early church - encouraging Timothy to respond by boldly teaching and preaching from God’s Word.  The letter concludes with Paul’s heartfelt testimony and description of what lies ahead for all the faithful followers of the Lord Jesus.  May these last words inspire us each week to seek and serve the Lord Jesus Christ, as we transition to new leadership at SLPC and as we face many personal, national and global challenges.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
