“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
(Proverbs 22:6)
What a joy it was to have a Good News Club at our church for 6 Tuesday evenings in February and March. The Good News Clubs are directed by the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) and they are normally held in public schools at the end of a school day. Due to the pandemic, we were only able to zoom clubs, or have them in churches.
At our church, the kids and teachers had a wonderful time together! Our Good News Club began with games and a snack, and some instructions and rules to follow. Every time there was a special “word of the day” – for example “God is Strong!” -- and a Bible lesson. This time we learned about the early church in the book of ACTS. Bible memory verses, fun praise songs, teaching on prayer and a missionary story were also a part of our program. “Wonder Time” talks on growing our Christian faith and fun competitive games for review helped us remember what we had learned. All the teachers were so impressed with how much knowledge our K-5th graders soaked up!
The leaders took written prayer requests in our “God Can!” every week, and we received many serious requests. We also gave the children an opportunity (with some counsel) to pray and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Our teachers were Barb Goodwin, Joanne and Steve Landman, Jenny and Maggie Iott, and Nellie Paulson. It was especially rewarding to have two of our church teens – Maggie and Nellie – participate with us in the teaching. Special thanks to Dave Goodwin who set up Fellowship Hall and solved our IT problems, and to Caitlin Corbit for providing snacks.
Thank you, Springton Lake Church, for hosting the Good News Club and for praying for us. We hope to see you next year! Most importantly, all praise be to God for using us to reach young hearts with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Editor’s Note: Steve and Joanne Landman and Barb Goodwin have consistently served Child Evangelism Fellowship for over 15 years. We commend them as excellent teachers and leaders, prayer warriors and faithful servants of the Lord.
Thank you!
