Holy Week

Palm Sunday – March 29

Jesus rode into Jerusalem in the way the Jewish crowds expected their king would do, in fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9. But no one—not even his closest friends—expected their king to surrender to his enemies and  submit to death on a cross. And, as Jesus explained to Pilate, the kingdom he came to bring was not “of this world.” On Palm Sunday, we are reminded to praise God for the king (and kingdom) he knew we needed and not the one we often think we want.

Good Friday Service with Communion– April 3, 7:00 p.m.

One of the most important events on the Christian calendar, this somber service commemorates Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross for us. We will sing the great hymns of our faith, interspersed with readings from the four Gospels recounting the events surrounding the crucifixion. This is a special occasion to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”

Easter Festival - Saturday, April 4 - 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.

All children who are walking through 5th grade are invited to join us for our annual Easter Festival. Come for an egg hunt, lawn games for the kids, and a Bible lesson. We will stagger the start times of the egg hunt on the back lawn so that all children will be able to easily hunt for eggs. Bring your own basket or bag!

Volunteers are needed to help hide eggs, set up refreshments, and clean up after the event. You name it and we have a place for you to help!

Please reach out to Joni Mindrebo at jmindrebo@slpca.org for more information, or to volunteer to serve.

Easter Sunday - April 5 - 9:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.

Before his arrest, Jesus warned his disciples that heartache was coming. Likening the experience to childbirth, he describes the joy that will overtake them once the anguish has passed. This Easter, we will consider Jesus first appearing to the majority of his disciples on the evening of his resurrection day. Suddenly appearing in their locked room, he twice speaks peace to them. Then he commissions them to go into the world with the “good news” of his resurrection, and empowers them for the task by breathing his Spirit upon them. In our day, we need the reminder that the Prince of Peace is bringing shalom to our troubled world. And we need more of his Spirit because we have good news to share too!

Invite friends and family to attend the Easter service and rejoice with us that Jesus is reigning and his kingdom is going forward!
