Paul’s letter to Philemon, is a personal appeal to his fellow worker and friend, to receive back in love and forgiveness his runaway slave, Onesimus. After stealing from his master Onesimus fled to Rome - where providentially he found the Apostle Paul, who led him to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Filled with hope and forgiveness, Paul’s letter gives Philemon a once in a lifetime opportunity to demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ by his request to “receive him as you would receive me.” (vs. 17) Will Philemon comply, providing the Church in Colssae with a living demonstration of compassion, reconciliation and restitution?
Philemon was written at the same time as the Letter to the Colossians, AD 60-62. Both letters were most likely carried by Tychichus, who accompanied Onesimus on his trip home.
Join us for our worship services, every Sunday at 10:00 AM, where we will be taking an in-depth look at Philemon in a new sermon series.
