For many, summer is a time to read a good beach book. How about exciting your imagination with the visions of Revelation? Read one chapter of Revelation each day during the summer series. (The chapters are short, so this is less than 5 minutes a day.) This will enable you to read through Revelation twice. Don’t try to connect the dots to today’s news, but ask God to open your eyes and heart through these dramatic visions to his work in history and the assurance of his ultimate victory in the end.

For those who want to go deeper, local PCA Pastor and friend of SLPC, Dr. Stan Gale, just published a book specifically on the Letters to the Seven Churches: RE: Velation: Seeing Jesus, Seeing Self, Standing Firm. Stan writes with a pastor’s heart: exalting Jesus and inviting us to find our joy and contentment in him.

For those who want to go even deeper into Revelation as a whole, check out Dr. Vern Poythress’s popular-level commentary The Returning King: A Guide to the Book of Revelation. Dr. Poythress is an eminent NT scholar, but makes this confusing book extremely accessible. You’ll be encouraged by the elegant simplicity of the message and filled with hope as you anticipate the fulfillment of God’s promises.
