Adult Sunday School

In our non-stop multimedia world, all of us are constantly bombarded with truth and lies about how to live. Where do we discern the truth from error? The Bible contains the answers and studying its truths together is a crucial component of the Christian faith. This fall SLPC is offering three adult classes:

The Book of Hebrews – Bill Clark in the Sanctuary

This class continues last year's in-depth exploration of the Epistle to the Hebrews which focuses on Jesus as the clearest, fullest, and ultimate revelation of God, and how that makes him worthy of our total trust and devotion. In addition to its famous Chapter 11 on the heroes of faith, Hebrews provides the framework for understanding how the Old and New Testaments present a single, consistent story of the plan of salvation. The goal of the class is for each participant to come away with a deeper understanding of what Jesus has done for us and what that means for us as we live our daily lives.

Marriage & Parenting (MAP) – team led by Pastor Rick and Mark & Shannon Schreiber in Conference Room

This year MAP will focus on marriage, studying the book Marriage Matters: Extraordinary Change Through Ordinary Moments, by Winston T. Smith, M.Div. In his book, Smith offers a simple, yet  powerful prescription for changing marriages, one ordinary moment at a time. Smith takes abstract, biblical principles and applies them to the concrete details of life so ordinary marriages can become extraordinary. Join couples of all ages and stages from our church community to be encouraged as we seek God's wisdom for marriage. 

Christian Discipleship – Pastor John in Fellowship Hall

Last year’s theme was “What We Believe:  Essentials of the Christian Faith.” This year, we will shift our focus from “faith” to “practice,” or from what we believe to how we grow and live. In the fall, we will begin with a discussion of How People Change, by Timothy Lane and Paul Tripp. This book will help us to better understand why we    struggle to grow in the Christian life, and how real and lasting change happens. The authors will help us to see how truly changed behavior and lives only come through hearts that are changed by the gospel.
